Frequently asked questions
51 questions we actually get asked, grouped by topic. If yours is not here, call (208) 242-4252 and ask it.
Permanent lighting
Do I have to take it down in January?
No. That is the point of it — it stays up year round and simply changes what it is doing.
Will it damage my roof or fascia?
The track is designed to mount into the eave line without compromising it. We survey the roofline before we quote so there are no surprises on the day.
What happens if one light stops working?
Call us. We installed it, so we come out and fix it — you are not chasing a manufacturer through a call centre.
Can it go on any roofline?
Most, but not all. Some rooflines and materials need a different approach, which is why the quote starts with someone actually looking at your house.
Is it bright enough to be useful, or just decorative?
Both. Warm white along the eaves reads as architectural lighting and genuinely lights the approach to the house; the colour modes are there when you want them.
For your home
Does it add value to the house?
It is a permanent architectural improvement rather than a seasonal decoration, and it is one of the few upgrades that changes how the house reads from the street after dark.
Can I control it from my phone?
Yes — colours, brightness, schedules and scenes, from an app on your phone.
Will it look tacky the rest of the year?
Set to warm white it reads as architectural lighting, not decoration. The colour is opt-in, not the default.
What if I move house?
The system is fitted to the building, so it stays with the property — it becomes part of what you are selling.
How much electricity does it use?
It is LED, so running it is a small fraction of what an equivalent run of traditional bulbs would draw.
For business
Can different tenants control different sections?
Zoning depends on the building, and it is one of the things we work out during the design pass rather than assuming.
Will installation disrupt trading?
We schedule commercial work around your hours. Tell us your quiet window and we will design the install to fit it.
Can we schedule colour changes in advance?
Yes — schedules and scenes can be set ahead so a holiday or an event runs without anyone touching it on the day.
Who maintains it once it is in?
We do. It is a local install by a local crew, so service is a phone call rather than a support ticket.
Holiday lighting
Can I set it to change on a schedule through December?
Yes — you can schedule scenes so the house changes without you touching anything.
Do the colours look like real Christmas lights?
The colour range covers traditional reds, greens and warm whites as well as the brighter modern looks.
What if I want it off?
Turn it off from the app. It is invisible in daylight, so an unlit house simply looks like a house.
Is it too late to book for this year?
Call and ask — the honest answer depends on where the calendar is when you ring, and we would rather tell you straight than promise a date we cannot hold.
Accent lighting
Will it annoy my neighbours?
Set as architectural lighting rather than floodlighting, it is aimed along the building. Brightness is adjustable, and getting that balance right is part of the design conversation.
Can I have it come on automatically at dusk?
Yes — schedules mean it can handle itself without anyone flipping a switch.
Does leaving it on every night cost much?
It is LED and dimmable, so the everyday warm-white setting is a modest draw compared with traditional exterior lighting.
Can it light a specific feature rather than the whole roofline?
The design pass covers which runs are worth lighting. Not every roofline benefits from being fully outlined, and we will say so.
Security lighting
Can I change the schedule while I am away?
Yes — the app works wherever you are, so you can adjust it from another state.
Will it light the whole property?
It lights what the track covers, which is usually the rooflines and eaves. Where the dark spots are is part of the design conversation.
Does it work with cameras?
Better light generally means more usable footage, particularly in colour, though we would not claim to specify your camera system for you.
What happens in a power cut?
It is mains powered, so it is off until the power is back — the same as the rest of the building.
Game day
Can I do two colours at once?
Yes — alternating and patterned colour schemes are part of what the system does.
Can I set it to come on just for the evening?
Schedules handle that, so the house can go team colours at kickoff and back to warm white later without you touching it.
Will the neighbours hate it?
Brightness is adjustable and it is one evening. Most streets find a lit house on game night considerably less objectionable than a floodlight.
Is there a limit to how often I change it?
No. Changing scenes costs nothing and does not wear anything out.
Service & repair
Is service included after installation?
What is covered depends on your agreement, and we will set that out in writing at quote stage rather than leaving it vague.
How quickly can you come out?
It depends on the season — autumn is the busiest window across the Magic Valley. Call and we will give you a real date rather than an optimistic one.
What if my roof needs work?
Tell us before the roofer starts. Coordinating beforehand is far easier than repairing a track afterwards.
Do you service commercial as well as homes?
Yes — both, across the Magic Valley.
How it works
Can I see the track from the street in daylight?
That is the design goal, and on most installs the answer is no until you know exactly where to look.
Does it need wifi to work?
The schedules run on the controller, so the lighting keeps doing what it was told even if your connection drops. You need connectivity to change things from the app.
How is it powered?
The LED runs are low voltage, fed from a controller that is powered from the building. Where that controller goes is part of the design.
Will it survive an Idaho winter?
The systems we fit are built for permanent outdoor use, including snow, ice and the temperature swing the Magic Valley gets.
How long does the install take?
Usually a day for a typical home. A large or complicated roofline takes longer, and we will say so before we book it.
Why permanent
Is it cheaper than hiring someone every year?
It depends on your building and what you currently pay, which is exactly why we quote per property rather than publishing a number that would be wrong for most people.
How long does the system last?
These are commercial-grade LEDs designed for permanent outdoor use. We will give you the specific product and its terms in writing at the quote rather than a vague claim here.
What if I hate it?
That is a reasonable worry, and it is why the design conversation happens before anyone commits. Warm white on the roofline is a conservative look, not a permanent light show.
Is it a fad?
Architectural lighting on buildings is not new. What changed is that addressable LEDs made it affordable on a house rather than only on a civic building.
vs string lights
Can I keep using my old lights as well?
Nothing stops you. Plenty of people run a permanent roofline and still put something in the yard.
Do permanent lights use more electricity?
They are LED and dimmable, so a run typically draws considerably less than an equivalent length of traditional bulbs.
Which looks more traditional?
Warm white on a permanent system reads as classic. If you specifically want the uneven, hand-hung look, string lights do that better.
Is one safer?
The permanent system removes the annual trip up a ladder, which is the main risk in seasonal lighting.
Comparing brands
Is one brand clearly the best?
No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling. They differ in profile, control software and warranty structure — which suits you depends on your building.
Can you service another brand for me?
Sometimes, depending on the product and how it was fitted. Call and describe what you have and we will give you a straight answer.
Does the app differ between systems?
Yes — control software is one of the more noticeable day-to-day differences, so it is worth seeing one in use before you commit.
Should I just get three quotes?
Yes. Ask each of them the questions above and compare the answers, not just the numbers.
